* FIX - Fixed a bug where the music volume level setting wouldn't persist after re-launching the game.
Bug Bomber is a delightful throwback to the golden age of falling-block puzzles, heavily inspired by classics like Dr. Mario. The core mechanic is simple yet addictive: you must clear colorful bugs from the screen by matching them with descending pills of the same color. While the premise is familiar, the execution here is remarkably polished for a mobile title. The touch controls are responsive, which is critical as the speed ramps up in later levels, and the visual feedback when you pull off a big combo is genuinely satisfying.
What sets this apart from the average clone is the inclusion of a robust single-player campaign featuring 21 levels of increasing complexity, alongside a surprisingly fun two-player local versus mode. Playing on a single device with a friend captures that frantic competitive energy that defines the genre. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but as a pick-up-and-play experience for commuters or puzzle enthusiasts, it hits all the right notes with its clean presentation and balanced difficulty curve.
21 challenging levels
Local 2-player versus mode
Smooth touch-based controls
Retro-inspired graphics and sound
Focus on clearing the bugs at the highest points of the board first to prevent an early Game Over. Look ahead at the next pill color to plan your placements.
Rotate and drop pills to create vertical or horizontal lines of four or more matching colors to clear bugs and debris.
The premium version offers an ad-free experience focused purely on gameplay.
I remembered playing Dr Mario years ago and went looking for an app. I like this one because it works well, and especially because it allows for a two-player game so I can play against my sister like I did years ago. Tapping to control takes a bit of getting used to, but this version is well-designed and works better than the others I tried. Worth the dollar for sure. If I could request ONE addition, it would be a *pause button*! I don’t think this is a big ask from a programming standpoint, so would you please add that for us? A kid needs my attention or I get a phone call—it would be nice not to start over every time. Also important for a two-player game—twice the interruptions. A secondary request is a way to rotate the pill counter-clockwise when desired. Maybe tap the left half or left edge of the screen for counter-clockwise. I like to start with the pills stacked to 19 or 20, and that rotation option would be helpful. Thanks for a good little game!
I loved Dr. Mario on the NES and this version is tons of fun! I like that the controls are what you expect from a mobile game (tap the screen to turn the pull, slide down on the screen to drop the pill to the bottom). I don’t like the versions that have the directional buttons on the screen. While I’d prefer to use real buttons like those try to mimic, I’ve never had good experiences with them on a mobile game. One thing I wish this version could do is drop the pill quickly, but not all the way to the bottom. If I’m playing a slow speed or against an opponent I want to move the pill quickly and slide it into place but I don’t know if this game has that capability. Otherwise, fantastic game!
There is something that calms my nerves while playing and it is nice, basic fun. But for whatever reason, I find the sounds creepy and although they are set to off every time I reboot the game, the music and sounds are back. Clearly not the end of the world, I can just turn the sound off on my device or re-tell it to turn sounds off… it’s just a little tedious.
Love this game. It’s great if you have a few minutes of downtime to play a couple rounds. The controls feel better than other Dr Mario type games I’ve tried. Definitely with the dollar since other similar apps have pop up ads.
I’m not sure why no love is coming this way. This game is full on classic Dr. Mario without the flash, which I find a good thing. It is almost impossible to find a well crafted puzzle game now a days that isn’t some flashy, fast forward, extreme, pay to win, blah blah blah. My wife and I love this game. Thank you, Dev!
I just got into NES Dr. Mario and wanted to find a good app to play with my girlfriend. This is a really great version and I'm glad I found it. I'm confused about the one negative review that calls this a scam, because it's not. It's literally what it's marketed as, a puzzle game that's a Dr. Mario clone, and it's great.
Not fun too.
What a failure to drop 2 player mode.. worst idea ever. Deleting the app now
