Borderlands Mobile brings the iconic looter-shooter franchise to the palm of your hand. Developed by Zynga, the game features the series' trademark cel-shaded art style and millions of potential weapon combinations. Players step into the shoes of a Vault Hunter to battle skags, bandits, and corporate goons across Pandora and beyond. Unlike the main series' open-world biomes, this mobile entry focuses on mission-based progression with modes like the Tower of Terror and Circle of Slaughter. With a brand-new campaign and legendary loot drops, it offers a condensed but authentic Borderlands experience optimized for mobile hardware.

Our Expert Score

80/100

I’ll admit I was skeptical about how Borderlands would translate to a mobile-first experience, but Borderlands Mobile genuinely surprised me. The gunplay is the star of the show; it feels 'crunchy' and responsive, even on a touchscreen. Zynga has done a great job capturing the aesthetic—the colors pop, and the enemy designs are exactly what you’d expect from Pandora. Seeing a legendary orange loot beam shoot out of a boss still gives that same dopamine hit it does on console.

The shift to a level-based structure instead of wide-open maps is a noticeable change, but it actually works well for short play sessions. You can jump in, do a mission in 5-10 minutes, and feel like you've made progress. My main concern is the monetization—as a free-to-play game, there are definitely some timers and currency hurdles that can slow you down, and the single playable class at launch feels a bit limiting. However, for a day-one release, the polish is incredible. It runs smooth as butter on high-end devices, and it's easily one of the best-looking shooters on the App Store right now.

This is a legit borderlands title.

This actually feels like legit Borderlands. It runs smooth, the gunplay feels great, and the visuals are seriously impressive. I’m on a 16 Pro Max and the frame rate has been solid so far, especially for day one. You can tell a lot of work went into this. That said, the F2P elements are a bit worrying. Hopefully they don’t end up dragging down the experience over time. Also not having open maps like the main games is a noticeable step back. It doesn’t ruin it, but it does take away some of what makes Borderlands feel like Borderlands. Overall though, really strong start. Just hoping those concerns don’t become bigger issues later. For now, I’m leaving 4 stars but that could change in either direction with how the next few weeks go.

Better then I expected

I just downloaded the game it’s not exactly borderlands in the sense that you have open biomes it’s more level progression based with what I’ve played so far, super super fun and interesting, plays better than boderlands 4 does on my Xbox, my only issue is normal mobile game issues, it would be cool if there wasn’t lvls and you just explored whole areas like other borderlands titles but I also rlly rlly like the change of pace, I also don’t particularly like the menu for the equipping guns but again that’s just a normal mobile game issue I don’t like the menus in mobile games ever, super fun I would definitely recommend if you’re a fan of the borderlands ip this mobile game made more boderlands humor then the last 3 games combined I was dying at the jokes just like borderlands 2

Nostalgia

Man this brings me back to when I used to play borderlands 2 and the pre-sequel on 360 and Xbox 1, their are clear bugs right now but that’s because it just got released today so it’s to be expected, this game his massive potential! Pros⬇️ 1. Stunning console quality graphics 🤩 2. Lots of great weapons, especially legendary ones to start off with at launch 🚀 3. Lots of game modes 😎 4. Not pay to win 🏆 5. Skill tree 💎 + So much more what are you waiting for vault hunter! Cons⬇️ 1. Lacking the ability to customize profile and no full settings features as of now which is annoying but the game just released so give it time, also lacking certain other features. Other than that it’s pretty dope!

Admittingly? Kinda not great.

Sure, short snippets of gameplay of a legendary game series like Borderlands sounds fun, but the game doesn’t really work well on mobile. Here’s my tweaks. The gunplay feels… sluggish to move the guns to fire, BL games have great guns, and the problem with mobile-gamifying borderlands is that the looter shooter aspects of a big world to explore just doesn’t fit on phones. I will give you props, it’s still fun enough to get you 3 stars, but not… enjoyable enough beyond that. I recognize most of the models from either being from Borderlands 3 or 4; but man… there’s kinda meant to be more than one skill tree per class that changes up how they play, meaning it’s still a bit too linear. Also, the weapons are meant to be random parts mashed together, and while legendaries/ uniques are a bit more blended together typically, the game thrives on different parts contributing. Shields feel flimsy, there’s no elemental damage over time, and kinetic just feels.. underpowered. Do I hate it? No. Am I in love with it? Also no.

The game is so fuzzy blurry and hard to see. It’s almost impossible to play.

The game is super grainy, blurry, and low resolution that it’s genuinely hard and hurtful to look at you have to increase the size of the screen with a button to fit a tablet worse there’s no graphics settings. There’s no sensitivity settings. There’s no settings at all. I’m sure the game is very new, but not having graphic settings or settings at all. It look this bad and play this bad on a tablet is rough. I’d like to see some graphic settings to make it so you can actually look at what you’re doing but until then this game is a definite skip.

Great Adaptation

The mobile space has been awaiting a title like this, especially a longtime fanatic such as myself, this game runs very smoothly and surprisingly the combat and looting system is completely revamped to showcase ease when playing, new content is the best content and I really appreciate all the effort going into this.

Is this an out-of-season April Fool’s joke?
Thu Apr 09 2026 MostlyGhost

Take-Two, are you seriously so desperate for money that you need to drop a gacha game to stay afloat? I would have rather you released this on April Fool’s day, because then at least we could have all laughed at it and move on. This is embarrassing slop that’s not worth playing if you own even one other mainline Borderlands entry. I would have rather Borderlands Legends get continued support than have this be what’s left in its wake. Absolutely disgusting. Don’t even pick this one up, Borderlands fans. It’s not worth your time for even a minute.

Bad touch controls
Thu Apr 09 2026 TCQ98

This has the bad combination of no customizable hud or touch control elements combined with the worst default layout I have seen on a mobile shooter. The buttons are all on one side making them unsuitable for claw and they are too high up making them unsuitable even for anyone playing with two thumbs only. Can’t even adjust sensitivity, much less separate sensitivities for hipfire and ads. Please fix this.
