Dinsun Expert Review

Our Expert Score

88/100

Bloons TD Battles 2 is a significant evolution over its predecessor, offering a much deeper competitive layer for fans of the tower defense genre. The head-to-head format is intense; you're not just building a defense to survive, you're actively managing an economy to send waves of Bloons at your opponent. The inclusion of Heroes and the Tier 5 upgrade system from BTD6 adds a massive amount of variety to the strategies you can employ.

The progression system can feel a bit grindy at the start as you unlock tower upgrades, but the tactical depth of the 'Hall of Masters' makes it worth the effort. Visuals are crisp and the animations for the Bloon pops are as satisfying as ever. Balancing the cost of upgrading your monkeys versus the cost of an aggressive Bloon rush is a constant, nerve-wracking tightrope walk that makes every victory feel earned.

Eco stands for Economy. Sending Bloons to your opponent increases your income every few seconds, which is vital for buying expensive late-game towers.

Your just bad (sorry)

The game is great. I think that of course, during the beginning stages of the game it kinda sucked, but now they have fixed a lot of bugs and balanced out a lot. If your complaint is that "ooh ddts are too fast" thats your problem, not the devs or the game, the game is ment to be challenging, your supposed to cone up with a way to counter ddts. Monkeys aren't weak, you just aren't synergyising and or picking good upgrade paths that fit with your playstyle. The monkeys dont cost "too much money" you are just lazy, not only have they lowered the cost for like everything but they have a lot of event "tournaments" that once you complete them you get in total around 3000 monkey money, that's enough to buy 3 monkeys or one and a 5th teir, and I dont even play this game that often, so im not just sitting in a room playing a game about monkeys and baloons for the whole day. Lastly I do like the first btd battles, I think it might even be a bit better, but I prefer having three upgrade paths instead of two, and this goes for ALL games, JUST BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS GAME WAS BETTER, DOES NOT MAKE THE NEW ONE WORSE, if you like the previous game, THEN PLAY IT and stop takin a dump on the new one bc the old one was better. Thats all

BTDB 2 Fundamental Issues

If you are fan of BTDB, and BTD6, I would recommend this. If you are a big fan of BTDB but (understandably) have gripes with the modern games, you may not like this; and despite the inclusion of a ‘competitive’ ranked mode— if you care about the competitiveness of the original BTDB at all, you will be severely disappointed here. Lack of an arena system where top tier players can make large bets is saddening, lack of a meaningful weekly leaderboard is disappointing, and the overall shift towards casual game mechanics makes this game feel very ‘soft’ in comparison to the OG BTDB; a game which managed to (in my opinion) transcend it’s medium and go beyond the cheap feeling typical of a mobile game. BTDB felt as though improvements were mostly unnecessary, but welcome. In this new game it seems to be missing many things outright, which I hope are implemented in time. I also liked the powers system that was implemented later into the first game, although that was admittedly very hard to progress (without spending real money… hm…), a theme which has carried over into BTDB 2, without the same feelimg of reward though, and without offering new ways to strategize. I miss the deck-based side game mode as well. Overall, right now this game feels like a 1v1 port for BTD6, based on the OG battles— as opposed to a successful sequel in it’s own right. Fun, and still pretty well put together being a Ninja Kiwi game and all, but a general disappointment when compared to BTDB directly.

Not enjoyable anymore.

Look here, I used to LOVE, and I mean LOVE this game. I would spend hours every day just grinding in this game, just to unlock the cool monkey tiers, and heros. However, that charm has recently been disintegrating. Reason why is because of the many flaws I still see from long ago. Starting off with a main issue I have with the game, are the ballon spammers. These people have NO, and I mean NO skill whatsoever. If I ever come across one, I either die immediately, or get M.O.A.B Rushed, and this makes the game no fun. Even RANKED allows this, which baffles me, as ranked is mean to show your skill, and not some cheap tactics to win. Secondly, I would like to discuss the pay-to-win aspects of the game. You see, before this became a major problem, the hero’s were already overpriced, costing a whopping 5000 cash, just to get Obyn. This was already hard enough to get, but now with the newer heros costing even more, this makes even harder. And then we have the kids who got a hold of their parents credit cards, and we’re able to get these characters like they were nothing, however, players like me are forced to stick with the STARTER CHARACTERS because we can’t afford the actually strong ones. And lastly, you ruined the game when you added Jericho/Cobra. He’s just too op, just like he was in the first BTD Battles, so please, PLEASE nerf him. Anyway, those were some reasons why I don’t like this game, and prefer to stick with BTD 6,5,4,3,2, and 1. Fix the spam, fix the pay to win, and fix Jericho💀💀.

Great but missing some things

Battles 2 is a really good game but it’s just lacking. Most of the ballon’s games are popular till the new one comes but battles 2 is just different. Firstly the updates are just so infrequent. In its prime ninja kiwi barely updated it. It was mostly one update per 5 months and now they are not making new things. They added bananzas the cobra and street party the song. I know thy are trying to bring back everything that was good but I think they need completely new things instead of remaking the older ones. Now I’m not saying for them to make better updates but I’m saying that they should have made new things and update that game way more when it was popular instead of the others just to appeal to the players of the other games. They sadly can’t change this but also they are still missing the towers from btd 6. Not just the hero’s because they are complicated but the towers like the beast handler or the mer monkey. Even with this you guys can even make some monthly events for them like every 9th you make an event to get one of these monkeys. Or even make a new one in battles like a balloon sender or what it’s called but then that could be upgraded to something that makes 1.1x eco or one that makes balloons send faster. Anyways this is a very good game but it’s lacking.

Ruined

Ok so I have been a fan of BTD since 4, and have played all the games following, BTD battles was such a great game, and really all that should have changed for the new one is the towers and upgrades, that’s it, tons of people would have played it, all the og guys would love it. Well instead they kinda took out everything that made the first one fun to grind. So let me explain; it has the same system where you make money and buy monkeys, except you fully unlock all the tiers except the 5th which you will never get to in a game, not sure why that was changed. So there’s still xp and universal xp except it’s actually useless besides overpriced skins. Literally everything has micro transactions trying to get 5000 money to grab a new specialist is literally impossible because you make 100 a game so have fun playing 50 15 minute games to get one guy which would take 12 hours added up. Ranked it actually useless now too lol, there’s no cash pool and the prizes are priory much the same for a normal match. So there’s not really a point to play this as there’s nothing to grind for, you just spend $5 to buy a specialist try them a couple times, lose to a Gatling gunner, and never play it again. To all the showcases reviews that say they love the game they all are wrong and either stopped playing by now or is paying to actually unlock stuff. End of rant, just remake old BTD battles with new characters and upgrades from 6, super easy and would make an actual decent game.

Fun, unique, original. Just one problem.

this might be my favorite tower defense game of all time ( except for 6 ) not only is it free, it comes with a whole new concept that isn't seen anywhere else. The “battles” part. You compete against another player, whoever depletes their lifes first, loses simple but fun! So you might be wondering why i rated this 4 stars. Thats because of balancing. In this game you are 3 types of people. The spammer, the late-gamer, and the normal player. And let me tell you, the spammers are a real problem. Not to mention that for people who want a good late game match, usually cant get that from the sheer amount of people with no skill sending rushes. And dont get me wrong, i know thats the point of the game, but its so annoying when they spam you, you can defend easily, and then they cant even take their own medicine when you spam them back. All i want is a good long match and instead i get a bunch of regen rainbow blooms. Also round 27 ddt rush. I Yayy! Now this doesn't mean that you cant rush, i totally encourage it, as long as you do it right! Also one more thing, please, and i mean please nerf Jericho. PLEASE.

Great game, Bad progression
Fri Dec 15 2023 Asclapicus

Overall i have no problem with the gameplay, its amazing. My issue is the progression and how you unlock towers. To be able to go past the mid rounds of 26-30 tier 5 upgrades are virtually essential to defend rushes especially DDTs and Fortified ZOMGs. To unlock the towers i use in my strategy (scientist Gwen tack ice and village) and the tier 5 upgrades i need 7800 cash total. If i get a perfect game and grouped purple rush on round 12 i get 80 cash 100 if i watch an ad, which by the way not even getting a 50% bonus to rewards for watching an ad is pitiful. Thats 97.5 PERFECT games where i lose no lives, i have to play (or 78 if i watch ads) to even use one strategy in the game which is absolutely ridiculous to me. A short round 12 game for me can take around 8-10 minutes and i simply just dont have the time to play almost a hundred games just to use the towers i want. If i wanted to use another strategy for example Obyn druid sub and farm. I would need over 8000 cash and would have to put EVEN MORE time into the game to have some variety. Saying this game does not cater to free to play players would be a massive understatement. It is almost impossible to use even one strategy and go to high rounds, which is a lot of the fun of the game for some players. I am aware that changes in the past have been made to progression, but it simply is not enough. The most clear, simple and obvious solution is to include tier 5 upgrades when you buy the tower rather than having it be a separate purchase of 1500 cash. I simply ask that you as game developers take into account the time players are willing to spend on your game.

Arena Leagues was a turn for the worst.
Tue Jun 18 2024 reviwernumber19337

I am a dedicated battles 2 player who has played since launch. The game has been getting better and better over time, but this new arena leagues updates is absolutely terrible. You can no longer play ranked at your own pace. You can no longer just stop in and play a few matches. You are forced to play over and over and over again just so you don’t get demoted or progress. The old system had nothing wrong with it, and should not have been replaced. This needs system was made to decrease matchmaking times. While I have noticed that I get into games faster than before, it is absolutely not worth the loss of being able to play at your own pace. I would much prefer slower matchmaking if it meant I could play when I want without feeling like I am being taken hostage. Please revert the ranked system. I have not played ranked for weeks because I have a life, I have responsibilities, and I can’t afford to spend hours upon hours each day grinding wins just to progress. The introduction of Etienne was very good. He introduced a lot more stratagy to the game, and I have been looking forward to him for a very long time. The update would have been amazing if not for this new ranked system that ruined everything.
