Explore the sun-drenched streets of Bloomtown by day, building relationships and improving your skills. By night, descend into the 'Underside'—a twisted version of reality where you must tame powerful demons to survive. Our Expert Score

87/100

Bloomtown: A Different Story is the 'Stranger Things' of JRPGs. It captures that eerie, small-town Americana vibe of the 1960s with incredible accuracy, right before tearing it down to reveal a demonic underworld. The transition between the 'Cozy' daytime activities—like working a part-time job or gardening—and the 'Creepy' nighttime dungeon crawling is seamless. It uses the social-sim elements to ground you in the world, making the stakes feel much higher when the town starts falling apart.

The monster-taming system is deep and rewarding. Instead of just collecting monsters, you are 'fusing' and evolving them based on the sins and virtues you encounter in the narrative. The turn-based combat is tactical and punchy, rewarding players who take the time to learn elemental weaknesses. But the real star is the atmosphere. The jazz-infused soundtrack and vibrant pixel art create a world that feels nostalgic and dangerous all at once. It’s a masterful blend of genres that should not be missed by RPG fans.

Great game on Switch. Defaults to no audio on iOS

Update fixed the audio issue, but it still launches with no sound, and there’s no way to fix that after you start the game. You can force quit the app, restart, and change the audio setting on the start screen. But it’s such a weird and awkward way to launch a game — hence four rather than five stars.

Ranger Escape- disappointing end
Sun Sep 14 2025 MaeMarigolds

I'm baffled by this decision. This is just stupid and totally unnecessary. Not even a hall of fame difficulty spike like in the old games. Just totally uncalled for, badly executed and stupid part of an otherwise great game. I'll already died 10x. Will try again and then just quit the game. It's absolutely not worth the time to suddenly trial and error in this kind of game. Especially if you have a controlls like a tank and eternal loading screens. I'm so massively frustrated and disappointed- close to offloading the whole thing.

Screen size is small

That’s all. I wish this game fit to the iPad’s screen size. Will patiently wait for an update to this problem, but if it’s not fixed it’s whatever. Great, fun rpg for fans of turn-based games and the Persona series.

Screen size messed up

I’ll review this again after this is fixed and this looks like it has great potential but the screen is so small when you’re playing you can’t see anything. I can’t use native iOS zoom features because some menus are full screen yet the game screen is tiny. Back to stardew until this is resolved.

Amazing game

The devs fixed the audio issue right away so I’m updating my review. This is a really great game. I played this one on Steam but it’s the perfect kind of game for mobile. Great story, really love the music. All around a really fun game. Highly recommend.

Lovely game

I enjoyed it so much, I thought it was free all the way through, but nope; so I still want to say it’s worth buying from what I see, but I do wish it were free with updates
