Auction Fortyfives is a fantastic digital recreation of the classic trick-taking card game that's particularly beloved in Atlantic Canada and parts of Ireland. As a fan of the physical game, I was skeptical about how the 'Auction' phase would translate to a touch interface, but the developer has handled it brilliantly. The bidding logic for AI players is surprisingly robust—they won't let you 'shoot the moon' without a fight, and they're strategic enough to know when to play their high trumps to break a partner's lead.
The 'Ad-Free' version is definitely the way to go, providing a clean, uninterrupted experience that lets you focus on the strategy. The UI is minimalist and functional, prioritizing card clarity over flashy animations, which is exactly what a serious card player wants. Whether you're a veteran player looking to sharpen your skills or a newcomer trying to understand why the Five of Trumps is so powerful, this app serves as a perfect, portable table. It’s a niche title, but it executes its core gameplay with absolute precision.

In Auction Fortyfives, bidding '15' is standard, but if you have the 5 of trumps or the Jack, consider pushing to '20' or '25' to secure the lead. Remember that your partner can help you reach your goal, so don't be afraid to bid aggressively if you have a strong anchor card.
The ranking of cards changes significantly in Fortyfives. The 5 of trumps is always the 'Best' card, followed by the Jack of trumps and the Ace of Hearts. Understanding this hierarchy is the first step to winning high-level matches.
Standard games are played to 120 points, though this can be adjusted in the settings.
I started to play this as I was learning in person and it's a huge supplement to learning. Now I play for fun, but there are some improvements that would make this game a lot better. The first would be that you should be able to let your hand play out if it's all junk cards. If I'm not going to make any points, I shouldn't have to play out the hand. If simulating a hand of my own like a computer player was an option, it'd keep me around longer. The scoring visual is great, but it'd be awesome to know what the value and suit of the bid is and which player got the bid. Other than that, this is a wonderful app and such a great low pressure game to play at work or on the phone.
Ability to play with another person online does not work.
I love the game of 45's. Been playing Merrimack Valley style for 35 years. While this game scratches the itch, it leaves much to be decided. The 5 comes up on over 90% of the deals. Jack almost as much. And I've never seen as many A❤️ in any card game as I see in this one. The only version of this somewhat worth playing is cutthroat. There is no randomness to the cards. 4 player or Partner mode logic is completely broken. CPU partner outbidding you because they have a 5 and nothing else. No third man high. Not that I can build a better game. But then again I'm not an app builder.
Love playing this game this is the only 45’s game people should consider. Only thing I wish was that you could play more than 1v1 online unless you can and I’m mistaking
I hope you like losing . I’ve played this game for a couple of weeks ( been playing for 50 years ) and this games algorithm stinks. I can’t get a hand full of Trump but the computor does it almost ever hand . It out bids me and leaves me with no cards of any use. I probably win 1 in 40 games. I play to relax, but only get upset wanting the other hand
Thanks Matt K for bringing this awesome game to the App Store. I’ve been playing with this app for a couple years and really appreciate your efforts. Parents grew up in Mingua Valley. Lol
