[Update 1.8.3]
- Minor bug fixes.
Age of 2048 is a brilliant evolution of the tile-merging genre, adding a much-needed layer of visual progression and history. Instead of just chasing numbers, you are building a civilization. Watching your tiles evolve from prehistoric huts to sprawling futuristic skyscrapers provides a tangible sense of achievement that the original 2048 lacked. It turns a mathematical puzzle into a journey through time.
The addition of unique items, like the 'Undo' and 'Magic Wand,' adds a strategic depth that allows for longer play sessions and higher scores. The artwork is clean and charming, with each era having a distinct visual style that makes you want to see what comes next. It’s a relaxing yet mentally stimulating experience that is perfect for puzzle lovers who want a bit more 'soul' in their mobile games. It’s a polished, thoughtful upgrade to a modern classic.
Unique civilization evolution mechanics
Beautifully designed buildings across 6 different eras
Helpful power-up items to extend gameplay
Relaxing background music and sound effects
Global leaderboards to compare your city-building skills
Just like in standard 2048, the best strategy is to keep your most advanced building in one of the four corners. Try to build a 'snake' of descending values leading to that corner. This ensures that you always have space to merge smaller buildings without blocking your progress.
The 'Undo' item is your best friend when you make a mistake that fills the board. Save your 'Cleaner' items for when a low-level building gets trapped in the middle of your advanced structures. Using these items strategically can easily double your high score.
The final evolution is the Space Age Wonder, representing the pinnacle of human achievement. Reaching it requires careful planning and a bit of luck!
The problem is that I am unable to purchase ad removal. There is a button to remove ads BUT there is NO option to purchase ad removal. I get receive a message telling me that removing ads will remove ads BUT there is NO button that allows me to PURCHASE it. Therefore, I am STUCK with watching ads every time which is annoying during a game where I have to wait at least 5 seconds to remove it. I am removing this app after realizing I cannot play ad-free even if I want to pay for it! The game itself is good and challenging.
You know what would make this even better? Loot boxes! Gems! Longer ads! Mandatory Facebook logins! “Share with your friends!” I know you’ve designed this to be another obnoxious freemium game born out of avarice rather than passion, but you can do even better. Beating level 3 is equivalent to getting an 8192 in the original 2048. I can’t imagine what the higher levels expect from you. Basically, it’s designed to be nearly impossible without buying power-ups. Ads, ads, ads. An ad before every game would be okay, but it also plays an ad every time you leave and reopen the app. I’m normally okay with ad-supported software, but it’s a little overboard here, and when combined with necessary micro-transactions, it’s obnoxious. I wish developers would just pick between IAP and ads. The isometric view is aesthetically pleasing, but I find myself accidentally swiping the wrong way far more often than in the traditional orthogonal view. It wouldn’t bother me if it had free undos, but no, those need to be purchased in the shop. The app itself seems professional. It’s a nice cosmetic makeover of 2048, the graphics are fine, and I haven’t run into any bugs, but it reeks of all that is wrong in the current state of monetization of gaming. Developers deserve to make money off of their work, but the constant “give me money” reminders in these kinds of apps is a major turn-off.
This game is fun. I like the upgrade on the 2048 concept. But that doesn’t make up for the fact that sometimes your saved game just disappears and you lose all the power-ups you (likely) paid for getting to that point. I’ve spent literal weeks on my current age, had several high level buildings, was a stone’s throw from finishing—then I went to pick back up where I left off this morning and it had me starting at square one, no option to continue my saved game. This has happened to me twice now and I’ve been ridiculously careful since the first occurrence, so I know it’s nothing I did. Not sinking another penny into this game until the devs answer for the money I’ve wasted on lost saves, and I suggest anyone reading this think very carefully before spending real money.
I am running the latest version of the game on an iPhone 7 Plus (iOS 11.0.1) and I am getting the same “no ads available” error that’s been reported elsewhere here. This game is fun aside from that, but it needs to get fixed! I also think that it’s very easy to accidentally swipe the wrong way, so the fact that there are so few ”undos” available (unless you pay) is lousy and comes off as a bit greedy. UPDATE: I emailed support about the ads issue and received no reply, nor do I see a response to my review, nor has it been fixed. In addition, the app seems to reset periodically and I lose my game. This wouldn't be so painful if the "start with a Level x building" thing worked but it doesn't. For someone who paid for the ad-free game this is ridiculous.
People complain about how impossibly hard beating level 3 is, and I will admit it is really hard and to beat it I had to use a magic wand but I literally have over 20 cleaners and wands and I have barely collected any gifts for unlocking new levels in the ages people are just irresponsible with them
The app is nice. Works well. Looks nice. IMPOSSIBLY DIFFICULT. Beating for level three without power ups is equivalent to getting an 8192 in 2048. How many of you can do that? The game is also riddled with ADS. Not only will you see an ad every time you open and close the game, but you will see banner ads on the bottom of the screen, floating balloons you can tap on for more ads, and ads every. single. time you start a new game. every. single. time. What if you want to play with the power ups? They are INSANELY expensive. 15 undos, which might last about an hour costs four dollars. Ridiculous. Great game, but probably the worst freemium trap I've ever seen.
Giving this a one star because I have to give some sort of rating. Zero star ratings should be an option because that’s what I’d give this app. Six ads in a row without getting to play a single game. Absolutely ridiculous, the amount of ads that one has to endure to play. End the game? Ad. Want to continue with your highest level building? Ad. Want to realign your blocks so you can continue? Ad. Can’t realign blocks as there are no ads left. Ad. Deleted this app and I’ve no intentions of *ever* reinstalling it. The game itself is addictive, but the antidote to that is the endless, incessant ads.
I just payed 3,99 to have the adds removed and I’m constantly being annoyed by the balloon trying to sell me more adds. Stop being greedy with your business model in the in app purchases . Any game that you have to pay to win is not really a game because there’s no challenge and no accomplishment. But I guess you don’t really care. I give 2 stars for the good design and I’m regretting to have payed but that what you are counting on anyways unfortunately. You can only understand the full concept of the business model once you pay to have the adds removed, and hoping to be able to have a nice experience. And again, unfortunately that’s not the case. Make the game 100% without adds, with fair play (without having to pay to progress and win) and I will give 5 stars . Until then, Bye and thanks for reading my review.
