NecroMerger is a whole new type of game that combines merge and idle mechanics with deep resource management. As the NecroMerger, you use dark magic to summon skeletons, zombies, and demons. Merge them into massive brutes before feeding them to your pet, the Devourer. As your pet grows, you'll expand your lair, unlock powerful spells, and attract the attention of merchants and rivals. Manage graves, altars, and more to maximize your resource generation in this humor-filled monster-growing simulation.

89/100

NecroMerger is a brilliant and darkly humorous mashup that proves the 'merge' genre still has plenty of room for innovation. Instead of merging cute flowers or gems, you play as the titular NecroMerger, summoning skeletons, zombies, and demons to feed to your insatiable pet, the Devourer. This twist on the mechanic is refreshing; every creature you merge serves a purpose, whether it’s generating resources like slime and mana or being a 'tasty' snack for your pet to help it grow.

The progression is expertly handled. As the Devourer grows, your lair expands, unlocking new 'stations' like graves and altars that let you summon even more powerful (and delicious) monsters. The game manages resource management beautifully, as you have to balance your limited lair space with the need to generate energy. With over 70 creatures to discover and the signature humor of Grumpy Rhino Games (creators of Idle Apocalypse), NecroMerger is a deeply engaging, months-long experience that is easily the best 'idle merge' game currently available.

One of the best free games the App Store has to offer

Absolutely excellent! I’ve been playing this for a while now, this game is free to play through and through. The gameplay loop and progression is incredibly satisfying, the grind is super fun even into the late game. The art is exemplary, the sound design is great, the humor sprinkled throughout is actually funny and is such a great cherry on top. I feel like I can progress a lot by just playing for a short check-in a day. The biggest pull for me was the voluntary adds, they would actually give tangible rewards for wasting your time. After playing for about a year, I bought the add free version for a very affordable price, and it felt more like a huge upgrade to the game vs just unlocking being able to play the full game like most other apps. The pacing is very good. (Small spoiler) there is a reset/new game plus where you can increase your level to unlock more, but it always feels fresh to play the early game again. The events are an enjoyable challenge and all beatable without paying money. I always seem to be drawn back to this game after any break I’ve taken from playing. It is entirely worth it, and a quick and easy game to pick up and play whenever during the day. The lack of paywalls and the voluntary adds elevates it above all others of its kind, offering satisfying long-term gameplay, well deserving of 5 stars.

The only game I don’t get bored of!

When I downloaded this game, I expected my interest to only last a month or two at the most. The majority of games I download end up losing my interest relatively quickly, but this game just keeps me coming back! Since downloading the game many months ago, I’ve opened it nearly every day. The art is fantastic as it is very stylized and polished, it is apparent the amount of love that was put into this game by the amount of little details you come across while playing. As I progressed in the game, I was continuously surprised by the amount of content that is available completely free. There are no gameplay elements locked behind a paywall, and the ads are non existent except for unlocked small bonuses here and there. The only paid content in this game is optional, and is simply a way to progress faster or unlock themes and costumes. The gameplay is simple, yet satisfying. The many different minions along with the journal to keep track of unlocked minions keeps me coming back for more, I love discovering each new creature, the variety seems endless and filling out your minion “Pokédex” is always enjoyable. Overall, a fantastic game. I thank the developers for bringing a fresh new take on the merge genre of mobile games onto the table, and for making it as polished and ad-free as it is.

Fantastically Designed

I’ll get straight to the point so you don’t have to waste your time reading a long review: this game is unlike any other idle gamer or merger game I have ever played. There is NEVER a paywall preventing progress towards the endgame, all “premium” currency is acquirable in F2P at a reasonable pace (with barely any of it needing to be spent to progress), and every single ad in the game is completely optional. The gameplay itself is phenomenal; I love the unique graphics and engaging content. Everything you do feels meaningful and the events are fun and not really time-limited P2W events. There are some annual events, but these are largely F2P and come around next year if you don’t get all the rewards. There’s also playable minigames that refresh every week so that you have as many chances as you need to win their rewards. I’ve never felt pressured for time-limited options or pushed back by a paywall preventing progress here, and anyone that says otherwise either (1) doesn’t full understand the game, or (2) is just straight up lying. 10/10 game, super fun, well-designed, and listens to community feedback! Go grumpy rhino‼️

Fun For A While

I’m still playing this, but it’s mostly out of habit at this point. Even with the Time Machine feature, it becomes more of a chore in later stages of gameplay. It’s a very long grind and a slog to keep rebuilding over and over. There’s no way to advance enough to make it fun again without spending quite a lot of real cash on it, and I don’t waste money on mobile games if I can help it. I liked it enough to buy permanent ad skip and that was worth it, I’m not going to regularly spend money, though. One “feature” that’s exceptionally annoying is that the cravings system will ask for minions of a higher level than you’re able to get quickly, and there is zero way to avoid this, so you’re stuck with no cravings bonuses until you can get the next station/level required. This happens every playthrough and the Dietician is useless because that’s also gate kept by level (makes her pretty pointless in early game/rebuilding after a Time Machine use, when you need all the help you can get). All in all, pretty fun for a while, but unless you’re willing to spend real money, don’t expect later gameplay to be very entertaining. It’s like that for all mobile games, so it isn’t surprising. If you don’t mind a time sink and later endless slow grinding, it’s okay.

Great Art Style, Bad Everything Else

The artwork and music are excellent in this game. The music gets stuck in my head all the time! Unfortunately, it’s a very slow grind unless you want to spend A LOT of money. And I didn’t mind spending some money to support the artistic vision. But the need to pay 50 diamonds after every refill for all three is irritating and make it’s hard to keep interest. Like sure do the Diamond pay for Mana, 5, 10, 15, 20… and cap it there, that’s plenty, you are being greedy with 50. But nooo that also means even one refill of slime or dark energy and you have to then also spend 50 diamonds for those, even though you haven’t used those the same amount and won’t get to until the next day resets. The events need a lot of work, they aren’t very enjoyable, need to be twice as long, and they currently cost way too much …even the $5 or $20 event options just aren’t worth it when you can only play 5-10 minutes of event and then wait at least half a day for it to replenish and be fun again. The dinosaur event primordial soup needs to replenish about 3x faster — such a waste. So yeah, will keep playing as a time waster, but this game could be so much more. As is typical with mobile games these days— this one is too greedy, reaches into your pockets one too many times, and becomes unenjoyable.

This is by far, one of the most addicting and fun apps that I’ve ever played. This game has so much quality, and I mean real quality not any of that “oH oUr GaMe HaS gOoD gWaPhIcS :)))))))” and then it shows a still image of a ps1 quality character model NO. This game has class. CLASS. The music is ACE. The sprites are ACE. The design is so good and you don’t even have to pay anything. This game is not pay to win at all, though I will admit the events are hard to complete on time but it’s still possible. Oh and this game is actually funny. It has good jokes that made me hoot and holler UNIRONICALLY. The dialogue between characters is so nice and well thought out and you can just tell this game has so much passion and care and heart in it that brings me back to the days when doodle jump and pocket god were popular. If you want even more games from these guys check them out, they’re games are even connected to eachother. All in all, this a great game and if you don’t download it you’re missing out on good music, good jokes, good designs, fun gameplay, and a group of developers that actually care. You guys are legends.

What I was looking for from an idle game

This game makes you feel like a necromancer while not forcing you to pay for anything. The thematic, music, art, and overall play style is truly fun and addicting but the biggest pro is how the ads are not invasive. You can pay for permanent boosts and no ads but the game never puts you in a position where you feel like its the only way to make progress so the free to play aspect is rewarding still. I usually remove games like this since you experience ads like random encounters in an rpg but it doesn't get in the way here. Doing the daily's and managing it from time to time is a bit mandatory to make any real progress. You will encounter some missions that requires a bit of farming but unlocking the new monsters to summon and tools is very satisfying when you get there. It’s not meant to be beaten in a day. So as long as that’s kept in mind you can find yourself investing into and slowly upgrading your lair to become the necromancer you wish you could be.

I HAVE NEVER PLAYED A HIGHER QUALITY THING IN MY LIFE

This is more or less a giant rant on how good this game is than a actual review, but regardless, I want to mention that this game was made with more care than any other game I have ever seen before. Each and every pixel within NecroMerger has an immeasurable amount of love and purpose. I have played this daily for YEARS and have never made a single purchase. Every last bit of this game is free. Sure there are some purchases you can make to progress through it faster, but every purchase is entirely optional. Ads? Only when you choose to watch one. Otherwise? Never!!! NecroMerger is by far the BEST mobile game ever. Absolutely humongous thanks to every last dev behind NecroMerger, you’ve made my life so much better. P.S. I think it’d be cool if there were animations for when you beat a champion, like them falling down or something like that. Thanks again devs for your absolute masterpiece of art that is NecroMerger.
