This update addresses an iOS 16 bug that was causing crashes on the New Match screen. The fix also now allows you to select from a list of recent online opponents when setting up a new match.
Thank you to those who have provided feedback and helped improve the game. Feedback is always welcome.
Five Suits Connected is a refreshing spin on the classic solitaire/poker-puzzle genre. Most of these games stick to the standard four suits, but adding a fifth suit—usually represented by Stars—completely changes the probability and strategy.
The objective is to clear the board by forming poker hands, and the extra suit makes it much more challenging to hunt for those elusive flushes and full houses. The interface is clean and snappy, focusing on the gameplay rather than flashy distractions. If you're a card game enthusiast looking for a logic puzzle that requires more than just luck, this is a solid choice for your daily commute.
Unique 5-suit deck system
Daily puzzle challenges
Elegant, minimalist UI
Global leaderboards
Since there are five suits, flushes are harder to get but worth more. Keep track of the 'Star' suit cards, as they are often the key to clearing difficult clusters on the board.
Select adjacent cards to form hands like pairs, straights, and flushes. The higher the hand value, the more cards you clear and the higher your score multiplier.
The fifth suit is typically represented by a green Star icon, adding 13 additional cards to the deck.
Every time I have played this game, I have opted to play a full, 11-round game, with four players—three computer and one human (me). And up until today (1/8/19), I always—yes, always—got through the entire game with no problems. But earlier today, after I had played two games in full, I went to play a third one, and before it was even halfway over (I don’t remember exactly when now), the app shut down automatically. I reopened the app and had to start over, and it again shut down at some point before the halfway point. The latter two things happened again, after which I gave up. In each of these cases, I was very upset. When I purchase an app such as this one, I plan to always have it work right at all times no matter what, and don’t want to do any thinking about it crashing after a certain amount of time. So please fix the bug that keeps making this app quit.
I really love this game, but the app is a little buggy. For about a month I had a ghost match that was highlighted in green as if it was my turn to play, but each time I clicked on it it brought me to a different (and completed) match. That issue disappeared in the last couple of days. More frequently / more than half the time, it will switch random matches that I have started with normal scoring rules to make them alternate scoring rules. (This is a real bummer to me as I actively dislike using the new / bonus system and prefer the classic gameplay.) Another reoccurring glitch is that it will abruptly end my turn when I’m in the middle of it by either reverting my hand back to the way it was when the turn started and switching to my opponent’s turn or by discarding something random from my hand and switching to my opponent’s turn. (This doesn’t happen super often, but I’ve experienced it about four times in about 150 matches.) Lastly, however you set up the notification settings when you install the app seem to be unchangeable afterwards. (My mom had notifications on when she installed it, and she cannot figure out how to turn them off. (She works in IT.) I had notifications off when I started it, and I have not figured out a way to turn them on. (I never hear when it’s my turn unless I’m actively in the app.) Other than those glitches, I love this app, and I really love this game!!!
During the last year I have played Five Suits Connected with another couple every night at 6:30! For several weeks, it was the only event on my calendar! As life has started getting back to “normal”, we are missing playing some nights, but the game really helped our loneliness during the lockdown. We have been playing the box card game, Five Crowns, for almost 20 years!! Four of us travelled to all 48 contiguous states over 10 years, playing the game in each state! And before Covid we played together twice a week! Your online version helped us stay connected & continue our addiction 😳
My siblings are spread out over the US and we play this game often. It's a great way to stay connected! I've never had a problem in years of use but recently after iOS update 16.6, I could not start a new game or rematch, and a game started by someone else did not show up on my app. I thought I'd tried everything but couldn't get it to work. Out of desperation, I sent an email to the game developer. Matt replied within a day. He was unable to replicate my issue but suggested logging out and logging back into Apple Game Center. It worked! 5⭐️ for the game and another 5⭐️for game support.
My girlfriends and I had a regular Friday night game night in which we played 5 Crowns at our local coffee shop. With the Covid 19 restrictions we haven’t been able to. discovering the app has been the best thing. We can play day and night with each other and we can chat in the message box with each other. I particularly love having the ability to consult the game log and be able to consult the game aid. The little sound effects are hilarious and bring a smile to our faces. THANK YOU for creating this app!!! It’s made a huge difference to our social distancing world.
We have been snowbirds in AL for several years and during our stay the card game five crowns is one of our card games we enjoyed. Now that we have been spending most of our time at home because of the pandemic, 4 of us (IL and NC) have played cards every week online since last March. We just discovered “FIveSuitsConnected” and played it last night. It was so much fun. The developer was so helpful with getting us all “connected” so we could play. I would really recommend this app for anyone who likes to play cards and want to be connected with family and/or friends.
This game is an example of apps that have basic function, but an utter lack of interface design. The visual design is pathetic, the interactions are poor (drag and drop behaviors are flaky), and the design is confusing enough that “?” Buttons are in the views to provide clues as to what to do at each step. A proper design wouldn’t need this. I’ll also do a statistical analysis on this, but I’m pretty sure the card dealing is broken. There are far too many situations where not selecting the face up card results in the selected face down card being the same value in a different suit. It’s a noticeable pattern and seems unlikely if the dealing were properly random. On top of all that the nickel and diving for added functions is silly. Just offer a fixed price for the proper functionality and do a real UI design to justify the cost.
It’s not the fanciest of apps, but the interface is easy to get used to, and the developer accepts feedback and continues to improve the app. The game itself is accurate (as far as I can tell) to the card game itself. The user base is small, but growing. Games typically don’t progress “live”, but if you have enough games going, there’s almost always a round you can play. You can also invite your own friends to play, initiate a rematch with a stranger, play against the computer (though the computer’s hand is visible to you), or play multi-player on a single device if you don’t have the card game handy.
